Talaria joins global launch of Tobacco Free Portfolios

November 4, 2018

Talaria Chief Investment Officer Chad Padowitz joined leaders of the Australian superannuation industry to launch the world’s first “Verified Tobacco-Free” certification stamp for institutional investors.

For the first time Australians will be able to easily see whether their hard-earned money – through a superannuation fund, health fund or fund manager – is flowing to tobacco companies.

Not-for-profit organisation Tobacco Free Portfolios, with the support of Princess Dina Mired of Jordan, in her capacity as Global Ambassador for Tobacco Free Portfolios, brought together leading investment professionals for the launch. The Verified Tobacco Free stamp will indicate whether a financial institution is investing money in tobacco, the single largest preventable cause of early death.

Now $1.3 trillion in funds under management in Australia is tobacco-free.

Chad Padowitz said Talaria was proud to support this worldwide initiative given the firm has not invested in tobacco stocks since inception in 2005.

The decision guarantee a tobacco-free approach to investing, reflects the values of Talaria, and its clients.

“We’re delighted to support Tobacco Free Portfolios and the ground breaking work of its founder Dr Bronwyn King who has experienced firsthand the devastating effects of tobacco.”
